Slat Wall Tool Holders

With the tool wall built it was now time for the fun part, making all the little tedious, time consuming tool holders, haha. Seriously though, they take forever to make. I made the slats themselves first with some scrap small pieces of 2×6 that I jointed and planed flat and then cut at the table saw.

I wanted to start at the bottom and try to utilize the 8 inches of dead space below the bottom slat for tools that would hang down below their holders. I started by making screw driver holders, a pencil holder,the holder for the pliers, and the chisels.

I made the holder for the screw drivers using a combination of two different forstner bits, one size for the handle body and another size for the shank to fit through. I drilled holes in scrap to test for the sizes I would need.

Next I made the holder for the chisels, I again used forstner bits for the handle to fit into and I had to cut the front out to slip them into place. I had to use my hand saw here because my band saw decided to crap out on me.

The pliers holder was next. I used some scrap pieces of 3/4 pine and some 1/2″ dowel stock. The holder ended up looking like a miniature paper towel holder, haha. I used my oscillating sander to give it a little shape.

The pencil holder was fairly easy, just some scrap 2×6 material cut down to size with some holes drilled into it for pencils and sharpies.

I made this simple holder on the side for my knife using an old picture hanger I had lying around.

After taking care of most of the bottom row, I made a holder for my hammers and some small spring clamps. Both were made using some scrap 3/4 material with different sized dowels for holding the different hammers and clamps. I drilled the holes at a slight angle upwards to keep things from sliding off.

I made a series of small blocks with a bevel cut on the front to hold random things like my hack saw and different squares.

This little coping saw holder was made using the dado stack to groove out the middle and cutting it to the shape of the inside of the saw itself.

The board isn’t completely full at this point, but I figure I can add small things as needed in the future. I’m very pleased with this addition to my shop and it will be very handy to keep all my everyday most used tools.
